Diablo 4 Crafting Guide: Plan Your Upgrades

Plan Diablo 4 Tempering, Masterworking and Horadric Cube investment so valuable materials go into equipment worth keeping.

DIABLO IV / GUIDE 06

Before crafting, confirm the item has a place in your target build. Expensive work on a temporary piece can delay a more meaningful upgrade.

01. Choose the Right Base

Identify the useful starting properties and powers. Compare alternatives before trying to rescue an unsuitable piece through costly modifications.

02. Read What Each Operation Changes

Enchanting, Tempering and Cube recipes serve different purposes. Check affected properties, preserved values and required materials in the preview.

03. Set Your Tempering Goal

Choose an outcome that supports your skills. Confirm that the item enables the intended interaction before moving on to further investment.

04. Budget for Masterworking

Prioritise pieces you expect to keep. Set an attempt budget so chasing one result does not consume your entire stock.

05. Match Cube Recipes to the Final Goal

A powerful recipe is not appropriate for every item. Read any resulting modification or equipment restrictions before confirming.

Practical Tip

Take an item screenshot and set a spending limit before starting. Compare the final result through more than rarity.

Season and Expansion Note

(Horadric Cube requires Lord of Hatred. In Season 15, direct Mythic upgrading adds the Crafted tag; only one item with this tag can be equipped at a time.)
